A Song From a Stranger

My Photo

This morning I awoke to a delightful surprise. I had a very unusual message from one of my readers on Medium. The comment was in response to an article that I’d published a few days ago.

Never before have I received such an unexpected and delightful message. Apparently, J. Murdoch McInnes Vasey read the above article and responded with this:

“I used your piece as a launching point for one of my songs. This is by way of a credit.”

Then there was a link to the song. I had no idea what to expect, but I followed the link and was literally blown away. The lyrics are beautiful and the melody haunting. Mr. Vasey and I were definitely on the same wavelength. Here’s a link to the song. Please give it a listen.

No, I don’t know Mr. Vasey, nor do I remember any recent comments from him. However, that’s part of the beauty of Medium: you make connections with people from all over the map. Not every encounter is pleasant, but I can honestly say that most have been well worth my time. Today, I experienced a unique gift — a song so beautiful that I can’t resist playing it over and over again.

Mr. Vasey, wherever you are — please keep making music, sir.
