Unfortunately, you're fighting two different battles with that approach. You're trying to beat the republicans at their evil game while reforming your own party. In normal times that strategy MIGHT work but these aren't normal times.

Contrary to what democrats love to say ‚ that the two parties are the same — they aren't. There are two things that make them very different. One, the democrats want to preserve the progress made in the last century. You know, social security, medicare, unions, public schools even the post office. No progress has been made in the 21st century just serious regression.. The Republicans want to privatize all of the above.

Two, the Republicans understand unification and the Democrats don't. Best ideas don't necessarily win nor do majorities. Especially if the majority is split. A minority can win simply by choosing a demagogue and then unifying. Historically, that's often how dictators gain control.

Republicans can be very pragmatic until they hit a winning streak and then they're ruthless. We're one step away from losing it all and no closer than we've ever been to gaining anything. And let's face it, republican have been working their strategy since Reagon when he opened the door to Billy Graham and George Bush who opened the door Jerry Falwell. They knew what they were doing.

How long have progressives been fighting for universal health care? Not that long. Trust me I've traveled and lived all over the world and I've never had anyone from the US ask me what the health care stystems are like in other countries. Sadly, Americans only started showing interest in universal health care a few years ago. Republicans have wanted to reverse Roe v Wade since it was implemented. And, social security and medicare, and public schools and on and on and on. ,

Nobody understands this better than the republicans. They unite around a single issue and win. That's their strategy. Democrats, especially progressives, have no strategy so they throw around the idea of voting third party or not voting at all. You'd never catch a republican doing that. That's a clear sign that the progressives have no strategy. Who in their right mind would be willing to lose all of the progress made in the last century because they can't make progress right now?

If progressives with all of their very recent but wonderful ideas had a strategy, we should have achieved something by now. But they don't and so they've accomplished nothing.

I suggest we study the strategy used by the republicans since Reagon. Study it like you're studying the Bible. Turns out they're not as ignorant as democrats like to think.

Okay I realize I should've just written my own article. Sorry I got so longwinded. Think about what I've said. Maybe I'm wrong. But I've lived in countries who've had dictators and I can tell you we're headed down that road now.
