There are lots of issues that divide. Not all are interconnected. However, there are a few political issues that define responsibility and morality within a culture. If a party embraces and promotes the issues that destroy or hurt people, then I can’t endorse or excuse them any longer. Cultural expectations are better at getting people to conform than laws will ever be. American culture has a long history of destroying and hurting people.
