The Power of the People is all About Unification

Democrats Don’t Understand This

The sun is setting on democracy (my photo)

So why do Republicans understand that the “power of the people” boils down to unification — nothing else?

Democrats struggle to embrace this strategy. It’s a pretty simple idea that works. We’ve been watching the Republicans in action now since 2016. As the plot thickens and we now find ourselves confronting critical times, the party that unites has an increased chance of passing bills, stacking the Supreme Court, and reforming the government thus changing my life and the lives of my children.

Once again, the rumblings of division within the Democratic party are getting a little louder.

In 2016, the most important election of my lifetime, I often felt threatened by those who claimed that they were voting third party. Jill Stein was a hot topic. I think they knew that it triggered me. Well, of course, they knew it triggered me. I resorted to pleading and begging for them to reconsider.

You see, I knew it wasn’t Donald Trump that I feared.

It was the Christian Nationalists who were backing Trump that made my blood run cold. One man can never have that much power unless a united group of followers supports him. I grew up in a cult and I’ve been trying to get away from evangelicals my whole life. Unfortunately, I left the cult and they followed me into the government.

Well, I’m starting to hear rumblings of discontent and division amongst the Democrats again.

This time I’m prepared. I have a therapist, a plan B, and a different attitude. I am learning to accept the predictable behavior of human beings, the fact that history repeats itself, and the realization that life has always been hard. I have very limited power to change things.

I’ll be in Spain soon.

I’ve been returning for 20 years. It’s my second home. They survived a dictatorship under the Franco regime. It lasted for about 40 years until his death. Roughly 50 years later some have forgotten the hardships as a far-right party is slowly gaining power again.

Something unimaginable 20 years ago.

This is much bigger than me or us. The entire Western world is leaning right. Before Franco took over there were different factions who vehemently opposed him but for various reasons couldn’t unite. Their inability to do so resulted in a long reign of hardship.

It is what it is and human nature is pretty predictable.

However this all plays out, it’ll take years to recover. We’ve already lost so much since 2016. It’s always a question of details versus the big picture and multiple issues versus the main issue. Humans are emotional, often ill-informed or misinformed, and have a tendency toward self-sabotaging.

One thing we can count on is that the Republican Party will continue to unite.

Nothing will deter them. They’ve pretty well mastered the power of unification and that’s the only power “the people” have. I for one am amazed at their tenacity. Dems like to refer to Repubs as stupid and uneducated, but they know how to unite. Their stacking of the Supreme Court was amazing in and of itself. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out. History repeating itself is like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

There are easy solutions. When enough time passes and we can look back, everything will be much clearer. But then eventually we’ll forget — again.
