Robophilia

He greets her at the end of each day

with an accepting expression on his face

Holding the door, pouring the wine

setting the table so they can dine

Listening to her talk about work

Asking all the right questions

Rubbing her tired and aching feet

Offering her the very best seat

Placing on the coffee table

something delicate and sweet to eat

He tells her everything she needs to hear

Providing reassurance to calm her fears

They laugh at all the same jokes

Watch all the same shows

Their taste in music a perfect match

and between them they can hatch

the most exciting things to do

Planning a trip to an exotic location

Both with equal anticipation

He runs her bath, warm and delicious

Helps her choose what to wear tomorrow

Provides advice when she expresses sorrow

Plumps up her pillow and pulls down the shades

Turns on the dim lights and holds her tight

Make a wish he whispers in her ear

Pulling her close, holding her near

I want a repeat of last night, my dear

He’s cold to the touch but that’s okay

She’s learned to like her love that way

Because whatever she wants

He’s programmed to never deny

And most important of all

His eyes lack lies

She’s tried human companions before

Maybe as many as four or more

But her attraction was fake

Even though they both would take

Whatever they needed

In the end she always receded

Into the background of their

Theatrical production

Egos in strident competition

Neither interested in voluntary reduction

And so it ended always the same

No actual winners in a losing game

Until he came along with a receipt

A friend and a lover complete

With an instruction manual

and a guarantee

To be everything she needed him to be

Modern life had finally delivered

A fetish worth her time

A man worth her hard earned money

Metal and plastic dripping in honey

A constant companion that needed nothing

Except an occasional upgrade.
