My Opinion About Today’s BIG News (It’s All BIG News)
America is hotly divided Over Elon’s recent purchase of Twitter. And, what else? Free speech, of course.
Say what?!?!?
My rambling thoughts …
That’s nothing new. First of all, there’s nothing BUT division in the US these days. That’s not about to go away. You can barely get noticed unless you say or do something radical enough to make people mad. Which is getting harder and harder to do, because it’s taking more and more to shock us.
Second, Musk is rich and so right or wrong, he’s going to get what he wants.
Nothing has changed. The oligarchs are running the show. Nothing new there either. Show me a time in the history of humanity where the world wasn’t controlled by rich guys.
Finally, this hysteria around free speech has a familiar ring. It sounds just like the hysteria around the right to carry a gun. We have more “gun and speech freedoms” than ever before, more than in the days of the mythological Wild West, but people can’t remember that.
Nope! Americans are convinced that they’re being persecuted.
Who doesn’t like to feel persecuted? It’s in our Christian DNA to expect persecution. Most of the time we can’t even tell whether we’re the persecutors or the persecuted, but life without a persecution complex would be surreal.

Everyone pissing and moaning about being denied freedom of speech these days are delusional. Sensational titles for new’s articles (clickbait), violent one liners in political speeches by politicians, hateful remarks on social media by the general public, threatening online comments, straight from the pulpit politicized sermons are now par for the course.
Sorry, folks, it’s all been normalized.
We’re all becoming desensitized to it. So, things will need to get wilder in the wild west, meaner in the social arena, and more violent in America in order to turn heads. We no longer have social expectations or rules that set boundaries for polite public conversation, political speeches, presidential behavior, or journalism.
To incite is the gold standard.
Maybe we started to make the shift away from more controlled public expression when reality TV became popular. Once you go behind closed doors and see people as they truly are then it’s easier to bring the family dysfunction into the public arena. However, any remaining social rules for acceptable public behavior were thrown out the window when our last President posted all day long on Twitter, often resorting to name calling. Here’s a loooooong list of unflattering nicknames Trump used. (over 200 ugly nicknames)
This kind of verbal free for all is here to stay. There’s no going back, I’m afraid. So oil your guns, sharpen your tongues, tweak your titles, and pinpoint your opponents, and for God’s sake put away that bar of soap your parent’s used to wash your mouth out with back in the day.
Let’s teach the kids how to piss people off.
