My goal was to live debt free as soon as possible. I achieved that status about 20 years ago. My overhead is way lower because I own my house and cars and carry no bank loans credit card debt. Yes, there is upkeep and taxes and insurance, and add on health insurance and life insurance and sometimes I feel like I'm being insuranced to death, but I would hate to be at the mercy of the bankstahs or landlords.
