It's probably different for everyone but any way that you look at it, there's an element of wishful thinking behind talking to gods. It wouldn't be so bad except that for far too many people it's their number one solution to solving problems. And even when it's clear that the problem was solved without a single god lifting a finger, they refuse to give credit to whomever provided a helping hand. It's always, thank you, god, instead.
