In my humble opinion, we have more freedom to say whatever pops into our heads than any time in history, not less. I can go online and insult even threaten anyone I want if that’s what floats my boat. Sure it may be removed but not before lots of people got to read it and respond in kind. This is largely due to a shift in cultural expectations after redefining what is allowed to be said in polite company. I often think about this organic cultural shift because I’m old and am able to look back on the way things once were. Even something as basic as the proper way for a president to conduct himself in public has been replaced with name calling and culturally accepted insults. Wikipedia has a list of over 200 insulting nicknames that trump used daily on Twitter and on live interviews. Fun times! Now everything that our parents use to wash our mouths out with soap for saying is allowed —from the top down. The bully in us won!
