I'm not religious in the least but the story of the ark comes to mind quite often these days. How Noah slowly and methodically built an ark while the people in the village watched, scoffed, and made fun of his dire predictions only to be swept away to their deaths in the end. Humans don't do well when they're asked to prepare for damages in the future. We seem to be wired to fight the wolf when he's on our doorstep. Often that's too late.
