I stumbled across Tolle once upon a time and at first thought he'd unearthed the secrets to the universe at best or a path to inner peace at the very least. However, eventually I was able to better define the impact of his words on me. Like so many humans down through the ages, I want an explanation for the almost unfathomable amount of suffering in the world. As a thinking creature, I needed an answer. But what I finally realized is that there is no answer. This is life. We're here without our consent and we will suffer to a greater or lesser degree. However, we are also creatures of many emotions rather than creature of logic. To deny our emotions feels unnatural to me. Bliss isn't the only emotion we feel. It's one of many. Our modern outlook demands bliss, however.
