I retired at age 54, sold everything I owned, and traveled the world for four years living everywhere but nowhere. Since then I have wintered in spain. It’s been 17 years since I retired. I keep a doctor and a dentist in Spain. It is definitely my second home. I’m building a similar relationship with Canada. I can stay in Canada as an American for six months out of every year on my passport. I live 3 1/2 hours away from the Canadian border. My son is married to a woman from Germany of Korean dissent and my only grandchild has both American and German passports. She’s bilingual. I always feel much more secure knowing that I have global connections rather than a provincial outlook. In the words of Thomas Paine — I’m a citizen of the world.
