I retired at age 54 so that I could travel the world and then never went back to work. My unconventional lifestyle was rather dependent upon not having debt. Now I winter in Spain and continue the same debt free approach. I'm pretty unconventional as near as I can tell. It's paid off for me but I suspect I want different things than most Americans. It wouldn't please everyone
