How Will the World Solve the Growing Refugee Problem?

It’s Our #1 Social Challenge and Hottest Political Issue

Our world (my photo)

How countries handle refugees, immigrants, and those seeking asylum is quickly becoming the most politicized piece of government policy across the globe.

In the US, we see governors of various states sending airplanes full of refugees to sanctuary cities with no prearrangements or warnings. It’s the most recent attempt made in a long line of deplorable tactics to politicize human life. The US is confronting its economic challenges in the normal way that people down through the ages have done. By demonizing “the other”, they use fear to gain political power.

This is an old tactic that has worked well in the past for fascist governments.

Climate change will add a lot of pressure to countries all over the world, however, including the US and Europe. We’re already starting to see it. Fascism is on the rise. The move toward fascism in Europe is heavily influenced by the hatred and fear of refugees and immigrants. They share a long history of manipulation of their own people.

Encouraging hate for various minority groups is an old political tactic.

It’s always convenient to shift the blame to the most powerless demographic. Because they have no control over their own lives let alone the governments of countries where they seek safety, they easily fill the need for a scapegoat. Once you get people on board with a hate project, emotions take over and logic is lost.

Ordinary citizens can then be convinced to do almost anything.

As the world competes for diminishing resources, people will be forced to leave their homes and look for safer places to live. The numbers attempting to cross borders seeking food, water, and safety will increase.

As more and more countries, however, embrace and promote nationalism as the one true path to success and survival in a world of limited resources and growing instability, the less we will work together.

Thus begins the domino effect created by dangerous policies.

If ever there was a time when we needed global goals and world cooperation, it is now. Withdrawing into our little national cocoons will increase competition and guarantee that climate change will continue to destroy our future hopes.

We are one world. Our borders are fake.

We share the air, water, food and all natural resources whether we think we do or not. Our technological advancement in the last two centuries has been impressive, but our social evolution is holding us back.

Technology will not save the day if we can’t learn to cooperate.

The world is headed toward an abyss. Lots of poor, displaced human beings will suffer and die as climate change turns their lives upside down. But closing our doors to one another and hunkering down in our nationalized bunker zone is the exact opposite of what we need to be doing.

We can no longer deny that what I do on this side of the world effects what you do on the other side of the world.

Climate change is a WORLD problem. If we are going to figure this out, it’s going to take a commitment from everybody.

Is the idea of world cooperation asking for too much?

Probably. Like I said, our social evolution hasn’t kept up with our technological advancement. We’re proud of our modern achievements but are unaware for the most part that we’re still solving problems like our ancient ancestors.

That’s why we’re most likely destined to fail.

Lack of awareness is a global problem as well. You can’t know what you don’t know. Many of us simply don’t know how to fix things. We struggle to peacefully fix the problems of our small communities let alone world problems

We aren’t rational creatures after all.

We are emotional creatures, and our emotions are stunted. But as has always been the case, if we refuse to cooperate with one another, the inevitable outcomes are predictable.

We’ll destroy what we’ve created, because that’s what we’ve always done.
