Clearly, the opinion of many Americans is that non-binary issues have taken up entirely too much time in the last 250 years of our country’s existence. Yet, I’m 71 and have never encountered a situation where I was expected to try to regulate my use of pronouns. I do have lifelong gay friends and a brilliant niece who has transgendered. I also have relatives in biracial marriages with mixed children. I’m very aware of the problems they’ve had to face that I’ve been spared. Humans are silly and hurtful, selfish and mean. That’s what bothers me about human beings not pronouns.
