Are Americans Inherently More Evil Than Canadians?
Are We Stuck in This Land of Carnage?
I saw a meme on social media the other day that went something like this:
“Remember, you don’t have to stop a bad guy with a gun if you don’t let him get a gun in the first place.”
Of course, that was all that was needed to start a social media debate. Two of the participants found common ground with this argument.
Debater #1: Absolutely impossible. EVIL finds a way no matter what.
Debater #2: True. I have said before that no laws will stop someone bent on doing EVIL.
Here we go again. Debating on social media as to whether stricter gun laws will stop the daily carnage of mass shootings in America.
Let’s face it, it’s pretty grim out there. Every morning, Americans of all ages get up and go to work, schools, universities, grocery stores, malls, night clubs, music festivals, churches, birthday parties, and movie theaters at great personal risk. Wherever there are two or more gathered together, they can attract yet another evil American to enter the scene with a weapon of war and blow everyone to smithereens.
That’s life in America.
We may not agree on the reason this keeps happening, but we all agree that life in America is one huge combat zone. We’re at war, but not with an outside enemy. We’re at war with ourselves.
Furthermore, we’ve been dealing with this peculiar American evil for decades now and still don’t seem to know what to do about it.
For a nation that takes such pride in their Christian heritage, evil is winning. The random social media argument above is one of many that I’ve read in the last few weeks. This particular argument left me wondering if Americans are inherently more evil than Canadians or Australians?
Is this evil genetically coded in our DNA, passed down from our parents, and impossible to stamp out?
Because no other country outside a war torn region seems to be battling the regular carnage that Americans encounter on a daily basis. Maybe it’s time to recognize that Americans are inherently evil. And, if that’s the case, it would explain a lot more than just our gun violence. Wouldn’t it?
I don’t argue with people on social media these days.
It’s a hopeless waste of time. Which leads me to also wonder if fixing our gun problem is hopeless as well. Maybe evil will win after all. Still, what if it’s not evil that’s driving the carnage? Or what if it is evil but we have the power to stop evil in its tracks? If we don’t even try to stop the carnage, then we’ll never know if good can beat evil. So far, we haven’t tried.
In my opinion, to not even try is a special kind of American evil.
