Another Day, Another COVID Booster

And the Beat Goes On

The Road Less Traveled (my photo)

Yep! Another day, another Covid booster.

I’ve not had the Covid curse yet. At least, I don’t think I have. I’ve practiced wearing a mask indoors, staying up to date with boosters, and avoiding large crowds. No magic involved, and I’ll have to admit not a great deal of self-sacrifice either.

So, I’m not bragging.

I’m lucky! I’m lucky for two reasons. Number one, I’m retired so I get to pick and choose with whom I spend my time. Trust me, I’m quite particular. However, I’m also an introvert writer who enjoys my own company and has never dabbled in a robust social life. Not that I don’t have friends. I do. I’m more of a one-on-one gal, but even then, I need lots of alone time.

When Covid hit, my lifestyle barely changed.

So, it’s not surprising that I haven’t had Covid. What’s more surprising is that I haven’t had so much as a sniffle for almost three years. I can’t say I mind. Getting sick is no fun. I’m very grateful that I haven’t had Covid, but no colds or flus either is a bonus.

Is it likely that I will get Covid eventually?

Probably. But by the time I do, perhaps the dire situation we experienced with the Alpha and Delta variants will no longer be possible. I’m fully aware that at 71 years old, I’m automatically in a high-risk category. I stand a higher chance of not bouncing back as quickly as I would have in the past from things like influenza or pneumonia. So, I’ve come to terms with the fact that from here on out, I’ll probably continue to exercise some caution. I hate cleaning up messes, especially my own.

If I end up in the hospital, I’m not going to be very happy about the bill that comes in the mail afterwards.

I didn’t spend my whole life scrimping and saving to turn it all over to the corporate American healthcare system. Out of principle alone I want to avoid making them richer.

Yes, I am a very practical, pragmatic woman.

So, here I am with barely a sore arm today. In another week, I’ll get my flu shot, and then I will continue to enjoy my best life — retirement. I know retirement isn’t for everyone, but for me it’s been absolutely the best part of my life.

I intend to enjoy it.

Whatever anyone else does with their life is up to them. I’ll be sitting over here in my favorite chair reading or writing. I’ll be working in my garden, making little road trips to my land in the Upper Peninsula, and hanging out on occasion with my granddaughter or my grand dogs. I’ll be painting and playing the piano. I spend large parts of each day in a creative frame of mind.

I’ll be keeping it simple.

Most of my choices in life these days are based almost entirely on keeping it simple. I’ve chosen the road less traveled.

It’s not very crowded, but I like it that way.
